Music legend and Long Island native Billy Joel has canceled all of his upcoming concerts after being diagnosed with a neurological condition known as normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), a disorder caused by an abnormal buildup of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain.

The news has left fans across the region stunned and heartbroken.

“It’s very sad. He’s a local guy. We all love him out here,” said Nicholas Giglio, a lifelong fan.

A post on the singer’s official Facebook page revealed that the condition has been worsened by recent performances, causing issues with hearing, vision and balance. The announcement comes just months after Joel postponed his tour due to an undisclosed surgery.

According to Dr. David Chesler, director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital, the condition often affects balance and memory.

“These patients often have difficulty walking. They’ve got an unsteady method of ambulating. They certainly have problems with their memory,” Dr. Chesler explained.

The standard treatment for NPH involves surgically implanting a shunt — a small tube that drains excess fluid from the brain — which can help relieve symptoms and improve quality of life.

Upcoming performances at Citi Field, Yankee Stadium and MetLife Stadium were affected. Ticket holders will receive automatic refunds.
