Lori has served as Bishop of Bridgeport for 11 years.
Parishioners say they are saddened to see him go, but are happy to see Lori move on.
Church officials say they will elect a temporary administrator to oversee the diocese until the Vatican can appoint a new bishop.
Bishop Lori will hold a press conference tomorrow to address the changes.
