(11/14/06) NEW CANAAN - New Canaan police and school officials are taking several precautions to address a bomb threat that specifically mentions targeting the high school Wednesday.
Police say they received the threat via letter on Tuesday. The bomb squad searched the school, which is located on Farm Road, in the evening. Principal Tony Davia sent a letter home with students for their parents explaining that classes would continue as scheduled, with a few extra safety measures in place.
On Wednesday, students will not be permitted to carry backpacks. Also, the campus will be closed and access to entrances, the gymnasium and cafeteria will be restricted. Although police say they are taking every precaution to ensure student safety, they do believe the threat is a hoax.
