(06/13/06) BRIDGEPORT ? The Bridgeport Animal Shelter on Asylum Street is responding to allegations of neglect and abuse of the animals.
Animal activists say the shelter is responsible for the death of a kitten. Lisa Richards works with the Stratford Cat Project and was told by former shelter volunteers the cat died under shelter care but it was covered up by an animal control officer. A spy was sent into the shelter four days ago and took startling pictures with a camera pen. The captain in charge of the shelter says he challenges the authenticity of the pictures. He says there is no way they were taken in recently at the shelter. Mayor John Fabrizi responded by saying Bridgeport?s Animal Shelter is in compliance of all state regulations.
