(05/16/06) BRIDGEPORT ? Volunteers at the Bridgeport Animal Shelter say they?re no longer welcome at the facility.
According to officials at the shelter, the volunteers have been temporarily suspended while the facility reorganizes. Volunteers say the move will result in a sub-standard level of care for animals in the shelter. One volunteer says she?s heard some of the animals are being put down unnecessarily.
Acting Director Mike Tubens says some of the volunteers were putting the public at risk by not following rules and regulations. According to Tubens, the volunteer program will be reinstated in the future. However, he says those wishing to volunteer will have to apply and follow new rules.
