Fire tore through an abandoned Bridgeport house Saturday, prompting calls for the city to quickly demolish blighted buildings.
Fire officials say the blaze started in the basement of a home at Logan and Alex streets and quickly spread to the upper floors. Firefighters say a squatter was in the residence, but escaped uninjured. Neighbors say that?s proof that the city of Bridgeport needs to quickly demolish deteriorating buildings. The city has already claimed many homes using eminent domain. Neighbors feel abandoned homes invite a bad element.
Firefighters believe an electrical shortage caused the fire, but the cause is still under investigation.
