A Bridgeport business owner will be providing free haircuts to children ahead of the new school year.
New Creations Barber & Beauty owner Kyle Garnett told News 12 he will give the haircuts during the end of the month at his business on 410 East Main St. Garnett says it is his way of observing Black Business Month and showing his customers how much he appreciates their business.
"We live in tough times right now. People are going through a lot of things,” he said. “What we would like to do is do our part, give back and help out. Blacks here in America have been through a lot from the very beginning. To be able to open a business, create jobs and give back -- that means a lot to me and my family."
Garnett opened the business in 2007 with his wife Jamie, 58, who died in 2022 following a long battle with cancer.
“We created this business and we wanted to not just do hair barbering and beauty. We wanted to create jobs and opportunities for other people also,” he said.
The free haircuts will take place Aug. 28.
