Bridgeport Councilman Jorge Cruz says he is considering a run for mayor in the upcoming election cycle.

Cruz announced the move Sunday at the PT Barnum Apartments on the South End, where he grew up. He filed paperwork to form an exploratory committee called “Building One Bridgeport Together.”

Cruz says rents in the city are too high and wants to focus on affordable housing and youth engagement.

He has represented the 131st District since 2019 and says residents want new leadership.
