Mary Green, who heads up the Bishop Jean Williams Community Market in Bridgeport, says demand for food has doubled over the past few weeks.
"It's heartbreaking to see how many families are being impacted by this unjust situation," Green told News 12.
Green is referring to the suspension of SNAP funding amid the ongoing government shutdown - a situation impacting thousands of Connecticut SNAP recipients.
"We are hoping for a resolution as quickly as possible," Green said.
Gov. Ned Lamont said Wednesday the state is stepping in to ensure SNAP benefits will resume "within four or five days," but it remains unclear how much each SNAP recipient will get.
