A Bridgeport grandmother is sharing her story of diabetes to help spread prevention awareness.
November is Diabetes Awareness Month and great grandmother Marjorie Mcallister says she wants other people to know that not only is diabetes preventable, its reversible.
Mcallister says she can recall the days when she had to take insulin to keep her blood sugar stable, but all of that changed when she learned about a Bridgeport nonprofit called Monitor My Health.
She says Monitor My Health helped her change her lifestyle and reverse her diabetic status.
Mcallister says she now encourages others to get the help she got — especially people of color, who doctors say have a much higher risk of developing type two diabetes.
