A Bridgeport mom, who asked not to be identified, says her apartment smells so bad that she's taped up the vents in her unit to keep the "foul" air from circulating.
"It smells like human feces and it's disgusting. I can't get to sleep at night, and I've been begging my landlord to do something about it for months," the mom told News 12 Monday.
A hole, about 3 feet deep along the side of the duplex, contains what she believes to be raw sewage.
"When you lift up the plywood boards covering the hole, the smell hits you and it's undeniable," she said.
What appears to be a broken sewage pipe sits alongside the hole, next to a small excavator, which the mom says has sat idle for months.
City health officials are investigating.
"Sewage can spread disease. It's not a pleasant situation to deal with and it must be remedied immediately," said Sumit Sharma, of the Bridgeport Health Department.
News 12 contacted the landlord but he did not immediately respond.
