News 12's Mark Sudol traveled to Bridgeport Hospital to discuss safety precautions with burn outreach coordinator Jason Bresky.
Bresky noted that Christmas is a peak day for fires related to candles and suggested that households remain mindful in remembering to put them out.
Regarding Christmas lights, Bresky explained that families should make sure the wires are put away loosely once stored for the season and check that none of the wiring is frayed.
Bresky also said that smoke detectors are crucial for everyone during the holiday season, as they double the chance of house fire survival. He suggests testing them monthly and replacing every 10 years.
