Bridgeport Mayor John Fabrizi walked in this year's America's Walk for Diabetes in Fairfield to raise awareness and money to help those suffering from the disease.

Fabrizi says he was diagnosed with the disease last year and says although his type is curable, many others are not as fortunate. Fabrizi is this year's honorary chairman for the walk and is also one of the most vocal advocates in southwestern Connecticut for diabetes awareness and prevention.

The American Diabetes Association says it hopes to raise $250,000 to prevent and cure the disease as well as improve the lives of those who suffer from it every day.
