Doctors are calling a 63-year-old Bridgeport man a "miracle" after he celebrated two decades of life following a bone marrow transplant that was initially expected to give him only two more years.
Sunny Shaw underwent the high-risk procedure in 2006, with medical experts predicting a grim prognosis.
Defying those expectations, Shaw marked his 20th year in remission this week -- a milestone that has stunned his doctors and brought his family joy.
"They didn't think I’d make it past two years," Shaw said. "Celebrating 20 years is a blessing beyond words."
A GoFundMe was created to help Shaw move into a wheelchair accessible apartment.
