Bridgeport police fatally shoot suspect and injure another; 3 officers hurt
State police are investigating after they say police in Bridgeport fatally shot one suspect, and injured another.
It happened near the intersection of Fairfield and Park Avenues Tuesday around 5:30 p.m.
Bridgeport Police Chief AJ Perez told News 12 Connecticut his officers were on foot trying to apprehend two men who they believed stole a car when the car hit three police officers. Perez says that is what led up to the shooting.
Dozens of protesters came out following the shooting, chanting things such as "no justice no peace."
"If anything happens to black people and black youth in our community, we have to look into it,” says Kevin Muhammed. “Right now, the community is angry and emotional and they want answers."
According to officials, one of the officers involved has been released from the hospital, but two are still being treated and expected to recover.
There is no word yet on the names and ages of the men in the car.
