A longtime Bridgeport native received a helping hand with much-needed home repairs.
Patricia Spodnik has lived in the same home on Pixlee Place for 25 years. She raised her family there, but has fallen behind on a few projects due to her health.
On Saturday, a team from Talmadge Hall Community Church in Darien was on the scene – fixing windows, repairing doors and steps while painting and decluttering.
By clearing out the basement, it’ll allow plumbers access to install a new water heater ahead of the winter.
“I worked as a certified nurse assistant for 28 years, and my back and my knees are not in as good of shape as they were back then when I was taking care of my residents,” Spodnik said. “When they pulled my heater’s price, I hit the ceiling. I don’t have $1,500.”
“I really and truly thank HomeFront and their volunteers for this special time that they’re giving me,” she said.
HomeFront says for every home they help, there are seven more waiting. You can apply online for assistance or to volunteer.
