Bridgeport scooter rider killed in car collision

The operator of the motorized scooter was pronounced dead at the scene by medics.

A 61-year-old Bridgeport man is dead after his motorized scooter collided with a car Saturday night, according to the Bridgeport Police Department.

Police say two other people were injured in the collision that happened near 1200 Huntington Turnpike.

The operator of the motorized scooter was pronounced dead at the scene by medics.

The north and southbound lanes on Huntington Turnpike are closed between Broadbridge Avenue and Intervale Road until further notice.

At the scene, police reported seeing a severely damaged Mercedes-Benz and motorized scooter.

The driver of the car, a 24-year-old Oakville man, was found outside his car along with a passenger. They were brought to a hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The accident is under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact the Bridgeport Police Department's Traffic Division at 203-576-7640.
