A Bridgeport woman marked a big milestone Thursday on her 102nd birthday.
News 12 Connecticut went to the home of Daphne Reid for her 100th and 101st birthdays and now again for her 102nd birthday.
The great-great-great grandmother was born in Saint Thomas, Jamaica in 1921. More than a century later, the beloved Bridgeport matriarch is still leaving her mark.
"I take care of my kids, and I don't let no family member go down the drain," said Reid.
She came to the U.S. as a young woman in search of a better life, which she says she definitely found. She raised four kids who all went into public service.
She says the important thing in life is to never stress yourself out.
Reid's secret to longevity is "avoid cigarettes and booze" and never go anywhere without your dancing shoes.
She says she is looking forward to having News 12 Connecticut back next year for her 103rd birthday.
