Family members of a 2-month-old who died Saturday believe the death could have been prevented.

Jasmine Morales, 19, says she went to feed her daughter early Saturday morning and found the baby blue and not breathing. The little girl was pronounced dead just before 10 a.m. The family believes the lack of heat in the apartment at 1186 Harrison Avenue in Morris Heights is to blame. Family members say they contacted 311, the city and the borough president's office about the heating problem but say nothing was ever done. The borough president admits his office received the family's complaint and says his office called the housing authority. He says he is now calling for new legislation.

Since the infant's death, residents say the heating problems are being fixed. The city's housing authority says it is now launching its own investigation.
