Many Bronx residents were offended by a cartoon in Wednesday?s New York Post, which depicted two police officers shooting a chimpanzee while one says, ?They?ll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill.?
Some Bronx community advocates, as well as the Rev. Al Sharpton, publicly criticized the cartoon for implying President Barack Obama is the chimpanzee and for its racial undertones.
In response to Sharpton?s criticism, the New York Post released a statement, which says "The cartoon is a clear parody of a current news event, to wit the shooting of a violent chimpanzee in Connecticut. It broadly mocks Washington?s efforts to revive the economy. Again, Al Sharpton reveals himself as nothing more than a publicity opportunist.?
Despite the fact that most Bronx residents were offended by the drawing, there were some who thought people were reading too much into the picture.
