Some Bronx residents scrambled to file their federal income tax returns Wednesday to meet the Internal Revenue Service's April 15 deadline.
The IRS requires all tax returns be postmarked on or before April 15, even if taxpayers can't afford to pay their taxes in full this year. The IRS says partially paying what you owe and working out a payment installment plan helps individuals and businesses avoid paying penalties.
The IRS estimates more than 10 million postponement requests will be filed this year. According to the IRS, the number of people filing their taxes online rose 5 percent since last year to nearly 71 million.
