Bulletproof vests saved the lives of a state trooper and an East Haven cop Tuesday, reminding officers just how important the vests are. Trooper Daniel Sivori and Officer David Cari were involved in a shooting on Interstate 95 during the pursuit of a robbery suspect in New Haven. Many patrol officers are not required to wear bulletproof vests, but most officers say they would never hit the streets without it. New England Uniform in Bridgeport provides most local officers with their vests, which do more than protect from gunfire. They also protect organs from blunt force trauma.
