The sanitation department was hard at work plowing, sanding and salting all major roads in the Bronx for the Monday morning commute. However, commuters are urged to use mass transit for a safer ride.
The weekend snowstorm dumped a record 24.8 inches in the city. Mayor Bloomberg says all major roads have been plowed at least once. He adds that roads are still icy and dangerous. Residents who choose to use mass transit should leave themselves plenty of time to get to their destinations. Transit officials say all of the trains and buses are running but some lines may be running slowly.
Meanwhile, all Bronx and city public schools are open and school buses are running. However, Department of Education officials say parents should expect delays. School officials also say after school programs and the new extended 37 and a half minute period at the end of the day will operate as normal.
Alternate side of the street parking and garbage and recycling pick ups are suspended in observance of President Lincoln?s birthday.
