Some Bronx residents are looking forward to paying less for home heating oil thanks to a gift from Venezuela?s president, who recently took aim at President Bush.
President Hugo Chavez is expanding his program through Citgo, which is the U.S. subsidiary of the Venezuelan-owned oil company, to boroughs beyond the Bronx. For a second year, Chavez is providing oil at discounts of up to 40 percent through nonprofit organizations. However, some are worried the good deed will be marred by the leader?s verbal attack on President Bush. Chavez called Bush the devil while speaking at the United Nations earlier this week.
While some Bronx residents are upset over the insult, others tell News 12 the Bronx they agree with Chavez. Many say politics should not get in the way of a good program that is providing a service to low-income New Yorkers.
