Another hurdle has been cleared for the new Yankee Stadium as the National Park Service approved the demolition of Macombs Dam Park Wednesday.
Many residents and parks advocates are upset over the park?s demolition. They feel they are going to lose valuable parkland even though there are plans to build parks elsewhere in the borough. The group, Save Our Parks, is preparing a lawsuit to challenge the park service ruling. Supporters say building parks at different sites is no substitute for a centrally located one, like Macombs Dam.
The stadium plans still need approval from the Internal Revenue Service, Army Corps of Engineers and landmark preservationists before it can be finalized.
