The Cardinal Spellman marching band is gearing up for an Irish tradition as they are preparing to showcase their talent at this year’s New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
Wednesday was the band’s last practice before they march down Fifth Avenue in Manhattan this Saturday.
The band will be playing five songs, including "March With The Irish," "God Bless America" and the school's fight song, "Victory."
Principal Jeri Faulkner says the school’s band has been in the parade for at least 60 years, dating back to when the school first opened. He says the band has been turning up their intensity in practices, even coming out on Saturdays to prep.
“You get to see the crowds, the people, there will be kids on the side, you get to wave to them, it’s just a really great experience, I can’t wait,” said Gabrielle Henirques, head captain of the twirlers.
The band will enter the parade around 1 p.m.
