The chair of the Connecticut Board of Regents for Higher Education announced Monday he is stepping down.
Marty Guay says he is resigning effectively immediately.
Guay's resignation comes after interim chancellor of Connecticut State Colleges Dr. John Maduko recently resigned over a sexual harassment investigation. Guay does not mention Maduko in his resignation letter.
In a statement, Gov. Ned Lamont said, "I have accepted the resignation of Marty Guay as chair of the Connecticut Board of Regents for Higher Education. I thank him for his service to the CSCU system and to the people of Connecticut I also want to be direct: the ongoing investigation into recent events regarding the former interim chancellor must move forward expeditiously and with complete transparency. Anyone found to have failed to follow proper processes and procedures should expect to face the appropriate consequences. I am confident this board will handle that investigation with seriousness and integrity, and I am committed to ensuring that CSCU has the leadership it needs to honor its obligations both to this matter as well as its ongoing work serving the CSCU students and community."
Guay will begin a year long fellowship at Harvard University's Advanced Leadership Initiative in August.
"While I had originally planned to transition from my role as chair later this year, I have decided now is the right time to step aside and allow the Board and the CSCU system to move forward focused on the important work ahead," he wrote.
