Officials with the Connecticut Department of Public Health say following the state's first case of measles this year, children remain the most at risk for being diagnosed.

DPH officials say the patient is an unvaccinated Hartford County adult who traveled internationally. They say the travel is not related to the World Cup.

DPH Commissioner Manisha Juthani says Connecticut has one of the highest vaccination rates in the country, which has helped prevent the spread of the disease.

"The people that are most at risk are young children, that is where we see a lot of the morbidity and even mortality from measles, so even though there are adults who can get quite sick, it really is a childhood disease. So that's why vaccination is so important," she says.

Juthani says if someone is uncertain about their vaccination status, it's best to get a blood test to check their immunity level.
