Three-hundred bags of food will go to families who are food insecure, thanks to Saint Jerome Church in Norwalk.
Luciana Alfano and about 20 other children spent their morning packing the bags of food.
"I filled up the bags with cereal, tuna, tomato sauce, granola bars and vegetables," said Alfano.
Every week, about 50 kids work hard to earn a dollar at home and every Sunday, they donate it to the compassion team at the church, and near the end of each month, they use the money raised toward helping others in need.
“We actually ask them, and they do it very joyfully,” said Steven Filizzola, program director of Faith Formation Elementary. “The lesson for them is they can change the world. Not the whole world, but the world of that one person or this family for example who needs their food.”
This month, their mission is to help the hungry.
"If I were the person getting one of these bags and I knew that all these people are helping me, I would feel really happy,” said Liliana Gallup, a volunteer.
In February, they will have their Teddy Bear drive with a goal to donate 500 teddy bears to underprivileged kids.
