The Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference released its new COVID-19 guidance for fall sports Thursday.
Regardless of vaccination status, all student athletes will wear masks for all indoor activities including active competition, practice and events around active play.
Unlike previous seasons, vaccinated athletes aren't required to quarantine in the event of a close contact granted they are absent of symptoms and wear a mask until testing negative within three to five days. Unvaccinated athletes, on the other hand, are required to quarantine for at least 10 days if they contract COVID-19 or have any symptoms.
The CIAC is also recommending unvaccinated athletes get tested for COVID-19 every week.
If practice or training sessions occur outdoors, masks may be removed while in the outdoor setting.
Athletes will not be required to wear masks during outdoor activities, practice or competition for cross-country, field hockey, football, golf and soccer. However, the CIAC says masks should be worn when indoors in locker rooms, for indoor practice, classroom team film sessions and weight room sessions.
The CIAC says fans can also return to the stands at 100% capacity within state guidelines.
