Bridgeport Board of Education has named Carmela Levy-David as the new superintendent of schools.
Levy-David currently oversees elementary schools in a large district near Houston, Texas.
The school board voted 5 to 4 to appoint her at its last meeting Monday night.
Levy-David becomes the fifth superintendent of Bridgeport Public Schools in the last 10 years.
