Co-op City peace officers went on strike when their contract expired at midnight Tuesday.

The Police Benevolent Association (PBA), the union that represents the officers, says a contract agreement couldn?t be reached with the Riverbay Corporation. The PBA president says months of talks resulted in little progress. Key sticking points in the negotiations are staffing cuts, pensions and benefits. The Riverbay Corporation has not commented on the contract negotiations.

Co-op City peace officers act as additional security and work along with the 45th precinct. The peace officers believe with their help, Co-op City has the lowest crime rate among major housing complexes.
