In honor of Colombian Independence Day this weekend, events were held throughout the state.
The Colombian flag was raised at Bridgeport City Hall Saturday.
Colombians gathered to sing their country's national anthem.
People also enjoyed cultural performances, music and food.
"We're always grateful for being in this country, but then it gives us a chance to also celebrate our own culture and put things together like this that we're seeing today," says Juan Forero, president, Centro Colombiano Cultural De CT.
BFAMIERCAS, a Stamford based dance company, hosted a Colombian Carnival Sunday at the Stamford Town Center's Plaza.
It featured music, dancers, singers and games for children and adults.
Organizers say their goal is for people from all backgrounds to enjoy the event and learn about their culture.
