Some Bronx residents have learned that progress comes at a price due to construction kicking up dust.
Many homeowners on Hermany Avenue say their once quiet neighborhood, where children played, has become a dust bowl. They say they have to keep their windows and doors closed to keep the dirt out. However, some neighbors feel the Department of Design and Construction (DDC) is trying to improve their block, which has broken or missing sidewalks.
The DDC says it has contracted out the work on Hermany Avenue as part of a $23.1 million area improvement project. The DDC plans to examine whether the contractor is acting appropriately. The 16-month project officially starts this fall.
