The state Senate passed a bill on Tuesday expanding automated speed cameras in highway work zones and increasing penalties for drivers who fail to yield to pedestrians, lawmakers said.

A ticket for not yielding could now cost $750.

The legislation also requires drivers to park farther from crosswalks to enhance pedestrian safety and requires more motorcycle riders to wear a helmet.
