A sip of the communion juice led to a trip to the hospital Sunday for five parishioners at the Calvary Baptist Church in Darien.
Police say the parishioners who got sick experienced a burning sensation and vomiting, and were taken to Stamford Hospital and released. They say more than 30 others had similar symptoms but declined medical attention.
Reverend Anthony Gibson has been at the helm of the church for more than 30 years. He says this type of incident has never happened before. Gibson says the juice came from an unopened bottle of Welch's grape juice. Police have sent samples of the juice to the state lab in Hartford.
Meantime, Darien police are investigating to see whether or not the juice got tainted in the church.
