A man from Darien accused of violently attacking an Uber driver back in August was arraigned in Stamford Superior Court today.
Authorities say 21-year-old Shandaken Ford violently attacked Uber driver Sijo George. A video of the incident went viral on social media.
Ford was arraigned on charges of assault, breach of peace and criminal mischief.
After the hearing, George told News 12 he's still shaken up from the brutal attack.
He says although he has physically healed, he is emotionally scarred from it.
“Many nights you wake up and like I can’t go back to sleep,” says George. “I’m seeking help from the doctor to get to sleep.”
Ford’s attorney, Mark Sherman, says his client is “deeply ashamed and sorry for what he did.”
Sherman added, “there’s no excuse for that…and we’re here to work our way through the court system."
News 12 obtained a handwritten letter Ford sent to George dated three days after the incident. In the letter, he apologizes for the pain and anxiety he has caused and says he struggled with his relationship with alcohol for some time now.
The letter also said he does not remember anything leading up to or after the incident.
