Hundreds of residents tied their sneakers and hit the streets Sunday near Pear Tree Point Beach to run and raise money for local Connecticut charities.
The Darien Road Race has been going on for nearly 30 years. Runners have collected nearly $800,000 in that period, all of which has been put back into the community, race officials say. The event is designed to draw athletes of all levels by including a short race and a longer 10 kilometer race.
This year, proceeds will go to cancer centers in Stamford and Norwalk and the Community Fund of Darien.
