The two boaters who were found unresponsive after authorities located a 27-foot vessel on the west breakwall of New Haven Harbor Thursday have died, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection says.

DEEP Environmental Conservation Police responded to a boating accident at 5:20 p.m. at the west jetty in the harbor. Earlier in the day, the U.S. Coast Guard had received a report of an overdue vessel that matched the vessel involved in the accident.

The male and female occupants were located out of the vessel and on the breakwall. Neither were wearing a life jacket, officials say.

Their identities have not been released.

The vessel remained submerged at the accident site Friday. Recovery efforts are expected to continue throughout the day.

DEEP EnCon are leading the investigation into the cause, which is undetermined.

The public is asked to stay away from the area while the investigation and recovery operations continue.
