(09/21/06) THE BRONX ? Residents who live near Van Cortlandt Park got the opportunity to voice their opinions about a controversial water filtration plant during a public forum Thursday night.
The plant has long been the source of discontent among residents. They fear emissions from trucks hauling dirt to and from the location have been causing asthma in the community. The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) recently addressed those problems by fitting three of the trucks with anti-pollution filters. They also started a program to monitor air quality around the site.
The meeting also allowed the DEP and the Croton Monitoring Committee to discuss the progress of the air-monitoring program.
