The state Department of Transportation is warning drivers to expect big delays in and around Bridgeport for two weeks after Friday night.
The project will replace two bridges on the Route 8/25 connector that pass over Lindley and Capitol avenues, the DOT says.
During construction, the highway will be reduced to two lanes.
According to the DOT, the new bridges have already been built to save time.
"We'll be able to actually take those bridges apart that are up at Exit 5, drive them down here, lift them up and put them in place," says Scott Adkins, of the DOT.
During the demolition, some city streets below the bridges will be closed. However, police will be directing traffic in those areas.
After the project is complete, another one will start again in mid-July while crews replace the northbound bridge.
