Drivers on the southbound Wilbur Cross Parkway say they are lucky to be alive after a giant tree split and crashed onto the road Friday night, blocking traffic between exits 55 and 56.
Authorities say no one was injured by the downed tree, though traffic was backed up for a few hours. Residents say the storm knocked down several trees along the road. Witnesses say some drivers in bigger SUVs helped state troopers by moving tree limbs with their cars.
State police say it took a team effort more than two hours to clean up the tree limbs and trunks that littered the roadway.
