It's the unofficial start of summer and as many in Connecticut start to spend more time outside, health officials want you to protect your skin. 
Experts say sunscreen needs to be applied 10 to 15 minutes before engaging in any activity outside when the sun is shining and should be reapplied every 2 to 3 hours. 
They say to make sure the sunscreen you are applying offers broad-spectrum protection and is waterproof. One mistake people often make is not putting enough on. 
For those with sensitive skin, mineral sunblock has become a popular alternative to ones containing chemicals.
