Members of the Black Rock Congregational Church in Fairfield voted Wednesday to construct a facility in Easton more than three times the size of their current building.Church officials say they can no longer hold their 1,100 parishioners in the current facility. In February, church officials were turned down by Fairfield officials when they asked to rebuild a larger facility on their existing Black Rock Turnpike property. Now, the church has acquired a 100-acre property in Easton at the intersection of Route 59 and Route 136.Some Easton residents worry the charm of their small town could be compromised by the proposed 95,000 square-foot building. However, Black Rock Church officials say they intend to work closely with the town of Easton in a way that's consistent with the rural charcater of the town. They say they are excited by the outcome of the vote and hope to be good neighbors in their new home.
