Family, colleagues remember Detective Wilbert Mora
During Wednesday's funeral for Detective Wilbert Mora, so much was taught about Mora and the loss his family, his precinct and all of New York City is feeling.
Detective Mora was born in the Dominican Republic and moved to New York when he was only 7 years old. At 6’ 3” tall, his mother called him King Kong.
Those who knew him called him a gentle giant known for his kind loving soul and infectious laugh. His sister says his smile illuminated his home. During his four years with the NYPD, he was known for serving bravely and honorably. Mora's supervisors say he was known for making good decisions. He continued to strive for leadership and was studying for the sergeants exam.
Commissioner Sewell called the loss of Detectives Rivera and Mora gifts we could not keep. Mora's family reminded everyone Mora was not lost to the city, but instead was serving his city.
