FDNY invests in new generator to keep Bronx fire engine powered 24/7

After receiving more than $1 million for a generator, the FDNY has announced that Engine 89 in Throggs Neck will be powered around the clock.
Councilmember Marjorie Velazquez agreed to a $1.2 million investment that will purchase the generator.
This new development for Engine 89 can potentially save lives, according to first responders.
"Even in natural disasters such as hurricanes and power outages, this generator will help this firehouse stay up and running so we can serve this community,” said Bronx Borough Commander John Sarrocco.
In an area that the chief of Engine 89 says experiences frequent power outages, local businesses are happy that their local engine will be available at all hours.
According to the FDNY, 50% of firehouses across the city have generators – something that is a concern to New Yorkers and elected officials.
Councilmember Velazquez says the investment is only the beginning, and that in the future, the priority should be to make all firehouses across the city have power to support the community.
