A female corrections officer is recovering after being attacked by an inmate Monday at Osborn Correctional Institution in Somers, according to authorities.

Union officials say the prisoner tried to sexually assault her and drag her to a location away from the view of cameras.

The officer fought without backup, fracturing her eye socket and sustaining significant bruising during the struggle.

The accused inmate is serving 20 years for other sex crimes, according to authorities.
