A fire badly damaged a historic building this morning at the Princeton Theological Seminary.
The fire began around 5:30 a.m. and was quickly upgraded to two alarms.
“Upon arrival, there was a flame showing on the third floor through the roof,” says Michael Yeh, director of emergency services in Princeton.
Residents watched as fire crews worked to put out the fire at the historic building, which is an extension of the Princeton Theological Seminary Library. “It really hurts,” says Chontay Moore, who lives nearby. “My heart that is part of the seminary because I'm in ministry. Knowing that there are books and documents that were used to study that have been destroyed.”
Firefighters worked to put out hot spots within an hour. At least three firetrucks were on scene putting out the fire.
“The building is not a complete loss,” says Yeh. “There's fire damage in the attic on the third floor and on water damage on the first and second floor.”
No injuries have been reported.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
