Former Connecticut Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman passes away; flags ordered to half-staff statewide

Connecticut is mourning the loss of former Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman, who died Tuesday morning.
Gov. Ned Lamont ordered U.S. and state flags on all Connecticut state government buildings lowered to half-staff in her honor.
Flags will remain lowered until sunset on the date of her interment, which has not yet been announced.
Wyman served as Connecticut's 108th lieutenant governor from 2011 to 2019. She was also the state's first woman elected comptroller, serving from 1995 to 2011.
Before that, she represented the 53rd Assembly District in the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1987 to 1995 and began her public service career on the Tolland Board of Education.
"Nancy Wyman was a good friend to me, a good friend to Democrats, and a good friend to the people of Connecticut," Lamont said in a statement.
Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz called Wyman a "trailblazing political leader, public servant, and first woman to serve as state comptroller."
Wyman also served as chair of the Connecticut Democratic Party from 2019 to 2020.
State officials say her legacy includes expanding access to health care and helping guide Connecticut through the rollout of the Affordable Care Act.
