Former First Lady Barbara Bush attended an event Tuesday held in support of 19-year Republican incumbent, Christopher Shays (R-Bridgeport). Shays is running against Democrat Diane Farrell to hold onto his 4th Congressional District seat.
With less than two months until the November elections, political campaigns are out in full force. Top Republicans paid top dollar, Tuesday to attend a fundraising event for the re-election of Congressmen Shays. Attendants paid between $500 and $1,000 dollars to attend the event where Barbara Bush spoke in support of Shays.
Farrell responded to Bush's support of Shays by saying, "It's just one more example of the Bush family's rewarding a member of Congress who's been so incredibly supportive of the President's agenda when it comes to the war in Iraq." Both Shays and Farrell will discuss their positions on the war and other issues in a series of debates in October.
